Here is a recent aquisition to York University's Special Collections: a luxury edition of Thomas Malory’s Le Morte d'Arthur, or, as published “The birth, life, and acts of King Arthur, of his noble knights of the Round Table, their marvellous enquests and adventures, the achieving of the San Greal, and in the end, Le morte Darthur with the dolorous death and departing out of this world of them all.”
The highlight of this two volume set are the numerous illustrations of Aubrey Beardsley. A limited edition of 1500 copies, this set was published by J.M. Dent in 1893 and printed by the Edinburgh firm of Turnbull and Spears.
This publication may be of interest to researchers studying book history, design (particularly the Aesthetic and Art Nouveau Movements), typography, art history, and illustration.
